PACE INDUSTRIES COMMITS TO USE MORE RENEWABLE ENERGY

Reedsburg, WI, February 2008 — Pace Industries Inc., an EPA Green Power Partner, starts 2008 with a third increase to its renewable energy purchases.  This commitment complements a notable offering of sustainable products and practices to further what Pace considers a corporate and personal responsibility.

Pace’s initial step into renewable energy was in 2006.  At that time there were one or two other manufacturers in Wisconsin who had joined the Wisconsin Public Power Inc. (WPPI) alternative energy program.  “Although renewable energy comes at a higher price we were hoping to start some momentum among customers, suppliers and employees,” states Blake Pace, president of Pace Industries.  Pace supports his company’s stance by explaining “to further develop the viability of alternative energies we need to increase participation by all users.  We all know as technology is developed and put in place financial backing – through use - becomes necessary.”  Pace has even carried this commitment to his own home with monthly purchases from his local utility supplier.

Alternative energy consumption at Pace can be simplified to something most of us can better understand, our homes.  Initially Pace began with a commitment equating to the energy required by 52 homes each year.  With this third and most recent increase, multiply those initial 52 homes by four (or almost) and now we learn that Pace is using alternative energy equivalent to the energy required by 200 homes annually.

Pace’s latest increase in alternative energy became reality through a real focus on how their business could reduce, reuse or conserve. Undoubtedly the largest gain was due to Pace being awarded a WPPI grant for an improved air compressor system.  Three older units were put to rest and replaced with one central, highly efficient unit.  To meet the grants requirements, a 50kW energy reduction was mandated and needed to be certified.  In fulfillment of the grants requirements an outside verification of efficiency was performed.  The seven day audit showed the new compressor had an efficiency rating of 96%.  Not only was the reduction met but it was almost doubled!  This reduction in power usage translates to trimming over 311 tons of CO2 emissions.

Founded in 1986, Pace Industries Inc. is the leading extrusion manufacturer of high impact polystyrene and related products for the graphic arts industry.  With its high-end extrusion process, backed by its quality and service standards, Pace continues to develop and create products to fulfill and exceed market demands for future generations.
